A very long walk at the weekend through some breathtaking Somerset countryside started extremely well. Beautiful weather, great company, wine and a wholesome picnic. After lunch our route took us into a field of cows. Now cows are harmless enough (on the whole) but Hooch has a very bad habit of barking at them! This can bring on many different reactions – cows may run away briefly, taking a sudden dislike to Hooch and all those with him, or they may come over to investigate…
On this occasion Hooch decided not to bark and one of our fellow walkers advised us that these were just small heifers and our passage through the field was uneventful and straightforward. This was all good news as we were putting our new collars and leads through their paces, and being trampled by a herd of cows wasn’t in the plan.
Things progressed as usual with Oscar and Hooch rolling in mud and other substances, swimming in dirty water and then shaking just in time for passers-by to get wet. After a brief stop at the pub we returned home having enjoyed an amazing dog walk. Unfortunately this one had taken its toll on Hooch who had quite clearly overdone it, resulting in him limping and feeling sorry for himself for the rest of the week. We are pleased to report good progress and he is almost back to his normal (when are we going for a walk) self.
What of the collars and leads I hear you ask? Well they were filthy!! Fortunately, they cleaned up as good as new much to Oscar’s delight – he does tend to take a little more pride in his appearance than Hooch…
